You should worry about the heat more. Prefer Armored instead of OC. They can hit your power plant, but remember they can't damage it through your shields, with the exception of Thargoid Interceptors. Given the lack of AX, I'm assuming fighting the latter isn't a design goal. You also already have module reinforcement, so that should help as well.

So on my Krait MkII, I have a 7A Power Plant with Grade 5 Monstered Low Emissions engineering. It has a heat efficiency of 0.14, which is phenomenal, but while toying around on Coriolis, I found that I could get a 5A Guardian Hybrid Power Plant that sacrifices that heat efficiency for an extra 2.5Ly of jump range as a result of the reduced mass without sacrificing power capacity. If you have to much power consumption, modules will start powering down. Mind you, as wolf said earlier, that is not nescessary a bad thing.
